FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy isn't only for moments of crisis. Many people begin therapy because they've reached a point where coping no longer feels like enough. Life may look successful on the outside while privately feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, or caught in familiar patterns. You don't need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. If you're wondering whether therapy could help, that's often reason enough to begin the conversation.
What should I expect during my first appointment
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and determine whether we're a good fit. Much of our time together will focus on understanding what's bringing you to therapy, the experiences that have shaped you, your current concerns, and what you're hoping will feel different in your life. This initial session helps me develop a thoughtful understanding of your needs so we can begin creating a treatment plan together.
There is no right or wrong place to begin. Some people arrive with a clear understanding of what's been difficult, while others simply know that something isn't working in the way it once did. We'll move at a pace that feels comfortable, and you'll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions along the way.
By the end of our first session, you'll have a better understanding of how I work, and we'll begin identifying goals that feel meaningful and relevant to you.
What is the length of therapy
The goal of therapy is for you to not need therapy. That being said, some clients stay with me for a long time, other clients will continue until goals are achieved.
What is the referral and intake process to see Katie Sussman
Although referrals for services from physicians, lawyers, or other health professionals are certainly welcome, they are not necessary for initiating therapy. If you are interested in services, please contact Katie Sussman directly to schedule an initial intake appointment.
